The hotel participates in the national program for Sustainable Tourism and has obtained the Sustainable Tourism Certificate, which is a category that certifies the hotel's efforts towards social and environmental sustainability. This certificate classifies the hotels by levels, from 1(minimum) to 5 (maximum). Essentially, the Bougainvillea has complied with the first 3 levels to present date, which means that we have fulfilled more than 60% of the certification requirements. Waste management

Hotel Bougainvillea manages to recycle most of its waste as a commitment to comply with the environmental and future sustainability requirements.

Liquid waste

Before the hotel was built; a filtration system was designed to treat all the wastewater. The system has grease traps, grava and sand filters. At the end of the process the water returns clean to the underground.

Solid waste

• 100% of organic waste is recycled (hogs' food, organic fertilizers).

• Paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminum cans are separated and sent weekly to Special School CIOSA where they sell it.

• 100 % of the glass is separated by colors, broken and given to Vidriera Centroamericana, where they use it to make more bottles.

•All the employees know our recycling policy and they are all involved in it.

To practice cleaning, recycling and composting is a way to start up again the natural cycle that had been so disturbed. To practice all this is a way to stop contamination and to start the future evolution.
